**The Great Books of the Western World are a series of over 50 volumes published by Britannica. The literary works they contain span over 3,000 years. This set is highly recommended for homeschooling families, due to the wide range of topics they cover. They also include a syntopicon (a 2-volume topical index) which makes it easy to find something to read for the topic you are studying. Used book stores often carry sets. If you have these volumes, you will not need to purchase the books individually.
